TikTok is a relatively new app that came out in 2016, but it can definitely help you get fans. You download the app and you can start watching videos instantly on the “For You Page.” The algorithm is slated towards your location and surrounding creators as well as what type of videos you usually like. The positive thing about TikTok is that you really don’t need followers to get your video seen. However, the more you post, the more your videos get posted on someone’s For You Page. You can also build your fan base on Tik Tok by accumulating followers, views, and likes, which would eventually get you on the For You Page more often.
How does this relate to me as an artist and performer?
Because of TikTok’s unique algorithm, it is very easy to get seen on the app, which can help you get fans. Many talented artists go on the app and perform a brief part of an original song or a cover of a song, and they build a substantial fan base from it. Also, many artists promote their songs on TikTok that are later put on Apple Music or Spotify. Especially with the younger generation using this app, it opens up a whole different demographic to expand your fan base, too! Additionally, TikTok is not just for artists. A wide variety of comedians post a short stand up skit or tell a short joke to get exposure and build their fan base.
Overall, TikTok is a new and developing app that is available to people of all ages. Whether people are on the app for leisure or they are using it to promote themselves and build a strong fan base, it is a cool and unique way to show your skills and talents.
