The Summer of George is an acoustic cover duo with a focus on the deeper alternative hits of the 90's. Comprised of full time Chicago-based musicians Brian Hoyt and Jay Langston. The duo has carefully curated a playlist that is nostalgic, timeless, and forever relevant. The goal? To give listeners a distinctly different experience through faithful renditions of songs they won't likely hear from other artists.
The Summer of George was a slow burn idea. The duo began playing together in 2017 shortly after Hoyt asked Langston to produce his debut solo EP. Both were already working in the same circuit, so they teamed up to play various gigs in Chicago, increasing the frequency after clubs began requesting the pair. The set was unrehearsed and raw. Fast forward to spring of 2020. Covid hit and everything halted. Instead of waiting it out, Hoyt and Langston got to work, meticulously compiling an entire new set list, and rehearsing endlessly. The Summer of George was born. The result is a polished team with great vocals, accurate lead work and a full set of "Holy S#%!, I remember this. I LOVE this song!" moments for the listeners.
Brian Hoyt has been a staple of the Chicago music scene for over 10 years both as a front man(Sweet Package) and solo artist.
Jay Langston has spent the majority of his career as a recording and touring artist in national bands(Echovalve, We The Fierce, Local H) as well as a full time working musician in Atlanta, Tampa, and Chicago.
