EXCITING, CAPTIVATING ARRANGEMENTS OF CONTEMPORARY TREASURES  FROM THE 60's TO THE PRESENT

Jazz From Planet Flippo's recording of Jimi Hendrix's "If Six Was Nine" won the band  the "National Jazz Connects Jukebox Jury Award" sponsored by Jazz Times Magazine.  The ensemble offers an exiting program of Flippo-made arrangements and originals that create a whole new slant on a each familiar tune.  Flippo's vocals extend from silky smooth to raucous.  The band explores styles and grooves outside the typical jazz ensemble, including tons of Latin beats, New Orleans, funk and odd meter grooves,  still leaveing room traditional swing, jazz waltz and even a jazz ballad. There's also usually room in the program for  a Flippo original or a familiar jazz standard.  This is a group of experienced Chicago jazz professionals that have played together over twenty years, performing at Chicago area festivals, colleges,  jazz fests and clubs. The band included Dave Flippo on keys/vocals and melodica, Dan Hesler on saxophones/flute, Heath Chappell on drum set and Donn De Santo on bass. This ensemble has recorded  six critically acclaimed CDs on Southport and Oppilf Records during their time together, so you know the music you hear is going to be electric and tight.
