“Big Dog” Mercer

Blues and R&B
Blues Band/Blues/Rock/Instrumental/Jam Band/Original

Hello, My name is Marty Mercereau, p.k.a. “Big Dog” Mercer. I am a full-time professional musician (guitar and vocals) performing 160 + shows per year in the Midwest and also abroad. In 2016, I was inducted into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame at Legends in Chicago. I perform as a trio, four and five-piece band. The trio consists of guitar, bass and drums. To fill out the sound we add horns, saxophone and or trombone. We are not JUST a Blues band. We play Blues & do it well. We also perform original music and cover songs. We cover Blues, Rock, Jazz, Funk, Roots Rock & we might even play a Country song – all depending on the crowd in front of us. We also have a few sing-alongs to make the audience a part of the show. We have a long and ever-growing list of festivals, concerts, theaters, and venues we have been performing at for the last decade, including the Chicago Blues Festival. We're punctual, easy to work with, volume conscious professionals. We promote every performance, dress properly, and we perform a family-friendly show. We have a whole lot of fun while keeping it professional 100% of the time. Road-tested and audience approved, as we like to say.

Chicago Blues Guide writes:

“This is THE BAND for all those that have ever said “I don't care for Blues music” Seeing the “Big Dog” Mercer band once is enough to convert them into instant fans of his style of Chicago Blues & Rock. Having fun on stage and engaging the audience with humorous banter and having them participate in sing-alongs is what they do. Nothing quite like hearing a large crowd of people barking and howling like dogs...”

Set List

Providing a set list is tough since we know many songs and the sets change from show to show to keep it interesting to not only us but our following too.
The best way to fill this section out is to say –
“This is an idea of what you can expect to hear at our shows”
